It is Spring though it may not look like it.

Bunnies

Mother rabbits leave the nest at about 6am and do not return until around 8 or 9pm.  This is why nests are low in yards, and  gardens.  They feed only 2-3 times a day.  If you find a nest leave it alone.  Mow or garden around it and feel good that you are helping all God's Creatures.  This is just the nature of the "Rabbit"

Leave the area slightly tall, and put a wheel barrel over it so the mother can scoot under it but dogs and others cannot get to it.  If you put your hand in the nest and the babies are wiggly and warm she has been there.

Remember rabbits are "Prey Animals"  therefore they are very nervous and will not come back as long as you are around.

  CATS

Please in the time of baby season keep all cats indoors or on a leash.  Cats are by far the biggest enemy of all babies.  Most are not killing because they are hungry it is just their nature.

Because we are smarter than the cats and it is not their fault it is our job as good pet owners to keep them on our property where they belong.

If you have any questions in regard to this please feel free to call me.

FAWNS

It is the season for fawns.  Mother deer leave their babies for many hours while they go off and eat.  Do to the encroaching of people on all aspects they can leave babies almost anywhere.  (like front yards, gardens, driveways etc)

Unless you have seen the mother get killed or there is a dead body leave them alone.  Mother will not be back until after (9pm at night).

Also the longer you stay, hang around or watch the longer it will be before she comes back.  If after all of this, it really is orphaned YES, WE WILL HELP YOU.   CALL "HOO" 629-2212 AND LEAVE YOUR NAME, NUMBER AND BRIEF.... TWO LINE MESSAGE

Thank you for your help in this to keep mother and babies together.

If you find a orphaned or injured baby or adult Please read carefully.

1.  Once you have made sure it is truly orphaned, please put the baby in a box or carrier with a towel.  Do NOT leave them on the ground or anywhere else to get injured.  If you were hurt or lost would you not want someone to help you.  Think about it.

2.  Get them warm.  Put a heating pad under half the box or carrier so if the baby gets to warm or cold it can self regulate.  At this point DO NOT FEED OR GIVE ANYTHING.  Giving anything to a cold mammal or bird will kill it.

3.  Now that the baby is warm you may make a solution of sugar water.  1/2c warm water: 1 tablespoon of sugar and a pinch of salt.  stir and very VERY carefully gives only drops every 15 minutes.  twice:  then every 30 minutes twice and then watch.

4.  You should have called "hoo" Haven now 629-2212 and left your name, animal, and a GOOD PHONE NUMBER where you can be reach after 6 at night.

5.  Please remember that I am a nurse and I am the one that returns phone calls after wok.  The baby that you have rescued if meant to be will be ok until the call if you follow the instructions.

DO NOT ALLOW INDIVIDUALS TO HANDLE THE ANIMAL:  DO NOT EVER, EVER, EVER GIVE MILK.  OH yes if hungry they will drink it and then later get diarrhea and possibly die.

Remember when an animal appears calm it is because normally it is scared to death:  God has put the fear of people in animals for a reason.  They do not know the difference between Good and Bad.

Thank you for your help.  Together we can make Mother Earth a Better Place for all.

There is a great need for "Hoo" but we can only handle the amount of animals and birds we are staffed appropriately for.  The care and feeding of the animals and birds we have received at this moment come first. We will help you it just will take time.

If you would like to make a difference and volunteer please feel free to call 1-815-629-2212 or email us.

In the mean time thank you for your patience and being a "Hoo" Angel and helping the mammals and birds.
