SPRING You probably called "Hoo" Haven and got directions to come to the web page for more instructions. Yes Spring is here and the babies are being born. Please remember that no one does it better than Mother Nature. So watch them from a distant, enjoy and then leave them alone. If you discover they are truly orphaned or injured, no mom or dad around, read carefully. 1. Put the animal in a box or pet carrier with a towel. Please do not ever leave a small animal on the ground if indeed you KNOW it does not belong there. 2. Keep it warm. Remember babies or animals with injuries need to be warmer than most. 3. Put it in the Bathroom or a quiet place where children or pets can not bother it. 4. Make a solution of 1 cup warm water, 1 tablespoon of sugar and a pinch of salt. Stir well and with a eye dropper give it only a little every 15 minutes. Be very careful, if it goes down the wrong tube it will aspirate and die. 5. If you have not called the facility you may do so now and leave a message. 815-629-2212. Please leave your name, type of animal and ONLY ONLY a two line message. I am a nurse and make all the triage calls when I get home. The shorter they are the quicker I can do many. Remember all the volunteers are caring for the animals and birds we have now. Just like when yours arrives we will take care of yours. 6. Thank you for taking the time to help one of God's Creatures and for having a caring heart.: All of us at "Hoo" Haven thank you.
Please remember we are NOT STATE OR FEDERALLY FUNDED, "Hoo" Haven is staffed by volunteers that help during their work or busy schedules to make a difference. If you would like to volunteer or give a donation, let us know. Together we can move mountains. THERE IS SUCH A GREAT NEED. If you want to be one of the doers, give us a call. The "Warm Fuzzy" will fill your heart.
